         The metal shear connector is critical because it enhances the load-carrying capacity of composite construction, allowing for greater efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, it enhances the stiffness of the composite structure, reduces deflections, and increases the resistance to seismic and wind loads.

          In November 2019, news broke out about a 70-story tower in Oakland, California, that was constructed with a  metal shear connector manufactured by a Chinese company called Jiaxing Jinyi. The tower was reported to have used more than 3,000 metal shear connectors in its construction. This news showcases the importance of metal shear connectors in structural steel construction and how its quality and reliability play a vital role in the safety and integrity of buildings.

          In conclusion, the metal shear connector may seem like a small component, but it is, in fact, the backbone of composite construction. It is responsible for connecting steel beams and concrete slabs, enhancing the load-carrying capacity, stiffness, and resistance of composite structures. The use of high-quality and reliable metal shear connectors is essential to ensure the safety and integrity of buildings of all types and sizes.
